“Too late lads” (VIEW FROM THE LEFT - FINAL ISSUE)
Our last league game of the season, and Valley wanted to end the season on a high. Lots of players returning at the wrong time had now decided to make an appearance. Rob Parfitt, the amazing centre forward from last season playing the week before and this week, and Big Bacon back from injury at last decided to stop being a footballer complaining of injuries (wimp!) and be a captain on pitch instead of off it.
The game started - quite like the last time we played Kenley - with Kenley scoring through their very usefully skilled centre forward, about 20 years younger than Bacon. He had lots of pace and had a good eye for goal (I think you get the idea). We then had a stint of good play and possession which at one point saw Andy collecting the ball on the left and crossing it to Forrest where he unfortunately missed what could have been a goal for Valley. This would have made the game a lot more tense but as it was, Kenley got another before half time from open play and so the score at half time was 2-0 to Kenley. Their cheerful laughing umpire thought he was doing a good job too, however some words were exchanged with the Valley captain as the teams changed around to give a more balanced perspective on the game so far.
The second half became a fair tussle, but with Valley actually having the most of the pressure with the ball in the Kenley half. However, Kenley managed to put away another goal during this period, even though the defence held firm to their job – we were not up to the ability of this particular Kenley team. The final score was 3-0, which on reflection was probably a good result against this team. Kenley had a number of chances and short corners in the second half and to keep them down to only one goal in that period, whilst we pushed forward to try and score as well, was well played by Valley.
Man of the Match: Boastie for his never ending presence
