More positives
Despite the scoreline Valley will take some positives from this match against table topping Merton. This match showed that Valley are capable of playing some good hockey and for much of the game the contest was a pretty even one. At half time with the score at 1 - 0 the visitors were well pleased with their efforts. Rightly so as Merton had struggled to break down a determined and well organised Valley defence.
The same pattern carried on into the second period until 10 minutes in when Merton scored their second. From this point the floodgates opened as wave upon wave of attacks were launched onto General Gihan Gordon's goal. With Valley starting to give up possession a little too easily the battle weary defenders could not hold out for much longer and once the second goal had been conceded it was all over.
Valley had the last word in the scoring when new boy Pete swept home a pinpoint Bails free-hit as Merton left themselves bare at the back in search of even more goals.
At least Valley can now look to the future with some entusiasm as long as the efforts shown in this game are repeated week in week out.
