High scoring

As Purley were residing near the foot of the table and Valley were in the top half they were confident of 3 points going into the game, despite never having won away to Purley.

It was the home side however that started better and scored the first goal from a well worked penalty corner. Tarryn Rostenne equalised shortly after with a great solo effort. The relief was short lived as a carbon copy of the first corner saw Purley back in the lead.

Valley then worked a little of their own magic with a fine short corner strike from Dawn Fear - her first of the season. They were really on a roll now and following another great run from Tarryn, Sarah Hall beat the keeper to the ball and Sally Coates made sure at the far post. In the lead at last they let their concentration slip and Purley were able to capitalise on a defensive mix up to level the scores once more.

Stern words from the coach at half time did not do the trick and Valley were soon a goal behind again. Determined to get back into the game, wave after wave of Valley attacks were thwarted by the solid Purley sweeper. There were only 5 minutes left when captain Helen Bearman fired home her 3rd of the season for a well earned, if slightly disappointing draw.

In fact they could have won it at the death if Tarryn had seen Sally lurking at the far post but alas she did not and her shot was well saved by the keeper.
